The SPARK Lab is pleased to host Dr. Lilia Cortina, Professor of Psychology, University of Michigan for a talk titled: "Sexual Harassment: From Science to Solutions." We will share the date, time, and location soon.

Speaker Biography: Lilia Cortina, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Management & Organizations at the University of Michigan. An organizational psychologist, she is one of the nation’s leading experts on workplace harassment. She uses scientific methods to investigate the many ways in which people are subordinated, violated, and relegated to the margins of organizational life. She focuses, in particular, on workplace abuses based on gender, sex, and sexuality. To date, Professor Cortina has published nearly 100 scientific works on these topics. This research has won awards, but its impact stretches beyond academia and into other professional spheres. For instance, Cortina is regularly called to serve as an expert witness, translating findings from social science to inform policy and legal decision-making. For example, she provided expert testimony to a panel commissioned by Congress to review military judicial procedures surrounding sexual assault. She also testified to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) Select Task Force on the Study of Harassment in the Workplace. In addition, she recently joined colleagues in co-authoring a landmark report on sexual harassment, commissioned by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. In recognition of unusual and outstanding contributions to the field, Professor Cortina has been named Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
